About Paddy Power

An Irish bookmaker founded in 1988, known for its quirky marketing campaigns and comprehensive sports betting offerings.

Our verdict on Paddy Power

Paddy Power has a particularly useful proposition for British football bettors who follow individual players: qualifying selections can continue through a substitution under Super Sub. Combined with player statistics, Bet Builder tracking and expanded player markets, it gives readers several concrete features to compare when choosing where to place a football bet.

Super Sub applies when the selected player or the replacement fulfils a qualifying outcome. The help centre lists markets including shots on target, fouls and goalscorers, with eligible selections marked by an icon. No opt-in is required. It covers selected competitions and can apply to pre-match or in-play singles, multiples and Bet Builders, so checking the icon on the actual selection is more useful than assuming every player bet qualifies.

The scope matters. Super Sub applies to normal time, including stoppage time, but excludes extra time and retail-shop bets. Opta identifies the replacement when several substitutions happen together. Winning qualifying bets settle as cash, and a bet won through the substitute settles at full time. For someone concerned about a player leaving the pitch early, this changes the selection's settlement conditions in a practical way.

The British iPhone and iPad app also describes Bet Builder+, which combines selections across games and events, alongside a tracker for following Bet Builders during play. Player data includes goals, cards and shots. These features may suit readers who want to research a player selection and then follow its progress in the same app.

Paddy Power's strongest fit here is football-focused betting with detailed player markets and substitution-aware settlement. Its app also covers racing, boxing, rugby and tennis for readers who follow other sports. Compare the offered price as well as Super Sub eligibility: the feature is valuable only when its conditions apply to the bet you intended to make.

Shop punters take note - solid in-store value

If you're someone who likes walking into a betting shop rather than using apps, this is worth knowing. Paddy tends to offer sharper prices in their retail stores compared to other chains. There's a cap on guaranteed payouts which you'll want to be aware of for bigger stakes, but for everyday punters looking to back horses or football in person, they're hard to beat on the high street. Most competitors make you jump through hoops with loyalty schemes to get similar treatment.

Best value on the high street - but know the limits

Paddy Power consistently offers the best odds if you're betting in shops. They're easily the best value on the high street compared to Coral and Ladbrokes. One thing to note though - there's a £1000 win limit at best odds guaranteed. Other bookies like Coral and Ladbrokes only offer best odds in shop if you have their loyalty card, so Paddy still comes out on top for walk-in punters.

This is by far the worst betting company. I thought bet365 was bad for changing bet amounts after the bet was complete. I placed a bet with Paddypower on an event...
